Rachel Ray

A while back I sent an e-mail to the Rachel Ray show in response to them asking about how people save money and cut costs. Today they called to find out a little more about what I do. As it happend I was taking a very rare and much needed nap! I did the best I could to snap back to reality though and chatted a little about the classes I teach on couponing, this new blog and some of the ways I save a buck.

It's funny, but I started couponing out of dire necessity... I'd been laid off and the unemployment checks were about to end...even when the situation was not so dire, I continued. Someone asked me once why I continued to work so hard at this "couponing thing" and I said... why on EARTH would I pay for it when I can get it for free???? In the past year I have not paid for toilet paper, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and a whole lot of food... and I LIKE it... not only does it help to allow us to have money to do family fun things (shoot at the price of gas it may be allowing me to drive!), but it also frees up funds for other things we just might not normally be able to buy.

Yes, I have to admit, when I put together a deal that slammin... my heart races a little... my 13 year old son was with me last week when I found those $5.99 bags of Hershey's candy for .59 cents... when I scanned them and just started laughing out loud - literally - he said... "MOM YOU NEED HELP"... LOL I LOVED it....

A few weeks ago Publix had their Birdseye Steamfresh veggies for 50% off... on top of that I had $1 off the purchase of 2 PUBLIX coupons and $1 off the purchase of 2 MANUFACTURER coupons... this made them .25 cents a bag or LESS each... so I bought 50 ... and yes... my heart raced a little when the cashier bowed... yes, I was laughing ALL of the way home... but everytime I see them in the freezer I still giggle a tad knowing someone, somewhere is paying $2.79 a bag and I didn't...
